The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has recently revised down the growth rate of global walnut production for the 2025/2026 season. The global output of in-shell walnuts is projected to rise by 4% year-on-year, lower than the 6% forecast in May; the output of shelled walnuts is expected to grow by 8% to 1.194 million metric tons.
For China, affected by adverse weather in the northern and northwestern regions, the output of in-shell walnuts is predicted to drop by 3% compared with last year. Harvesting in hebei's producing areas has been advanced, and the shelled walnuts boast good color and luster.
Walnut production in California, the US is set to rebound sharply by 18%, thanks to favorable weather and sufficient water supply. However, rainfall has caused shell staining in some producing areas, which has impacted the sales of in-shell walnuts, while the quality of the kernels remains basically intact.
Chile's walnut output has rebounded in tandem. Demand has improved in this season, driving a significant growth in exports, and the orchard growth is in line with expectations.
In terms of total supply, the global total supply of in-shell walnuts for the 2025/2026 season is expected to increase by 2% to 2.825 million metric tons, and the total supply of shelled walnuts will rise by 2% to 1.233 million metric tons.
